Comments:
War Memorials Trust has assessed the recent condition report and notes that some of the paint is being lost. The inscription and names can still be read so the Trust does not believe action needs to be taken yet. This is because cleaning will be needed before re-painting and cleaning too much can be damaging. It can also be more expensive to keep repeating the work. It is important that there is a record of the letters and finish for future reference. This can be done with photographs which can be kept by the custodians and uploaded to War Memorials Online. If regular checks are undertaken every six months or a year, the condition can be monitored. When it gets to a stage where the inscriptions and/or names are difficult to read then works should be done. This work should form part of the maintenance plan as paint will not last forever.
