Comments:
The memorial is cleaned and maintained by volunteers as is the flower beds around the perimeter. Exeter City Council cut the grass but nothing in addition, It is located on ancient Public space and originally built by public subscription. The pointing between the base stones continues to deteriorate, making the risk of frost damage greater. Debris builds up between the joints allowing weeds to grow. The mortar foundations have become undermined in several places. The lead letter N is still missing from the inscription. I am obtaining quotations for repairing the pointing and replacing the lead letter from local master craftsmen, then seeking to raise money for the work from local subscriptions. local council grants and if possible a contribution from the War Memorials Trust. It would be interesting to discover if any residual money is held in a bank account, from the original fund raising
