Comments:
The Portland cross is in good general condition, there are no discernible structural issues. The surface of the Portland stone features a build-up of biological material. Copper staining from the reverse of the bronze plaques. The areas directly below the plaques have received lime shelter coating in the past to mask copper staining. Some areas of the white infill (to the incised bronze plaque) look to have been purposefully picked out as an act of vandalism. The bronze plaques are dry of wax, and are beginning to discolour with copper corrosion. There are areas of dark sulphation on the upper areas of the cross.
