Appearance: The memorial is in the form of a vellum (or parchmentised paper) scroll, hand lettered in red and black ink, using a style similar to foundation hand. Uncial lettering has been used for the title and postcsript. It is mounted behind glass in a carved oak frame and backed with a galvanised metal plate. The frame external measurements are 81 cms/32 ins wide x 51 cms/20 ins high. The frame aperture (manuscript) measures 61 cms/ 24 ins wide x 30.5 cms /12 ins high. The frame is attached to the wall with 4 flush mirror plate-type fixings. The manuscript memorial to commemorate men from the parish who served during World War I hangs in St Andrew's Church, West Deeping. It is located to the rear (west) of the Nave above the Donation Box and a radiator. The vellum document is in a carved oak frame measuring 32 inches wide x 20 inches high. The wooden frame, mounted 76 inches above the floor, is glazed with 4 flush mirror plate-type fixings. The commemorative text is written in a font common in the 1920s and it is understood that the document was mounted around that time. Over the years, the paper has become stained in the bottom right hand corner (contamination thought to be originating from moisture from the radiator directly below the document) and is in need of restoration. A photograph of the framed document is attached. The restoration and possible relocation of the document is an initiative of the local Heritage Group led by Mrs Margaret Ashcroft and will be managed as a 'project' jointly with the West Deeping Parochial Church Council.
