Comments:
Cross: The lettering on the stone plinth was obscured by a film of biological growt,. The stone looks mostly sound, though the top left corner of the plinth is chipped, and there appears to be some small bursting between the letters E and R in the word LEICESTER. There was moss growing in some of the pointing. Walls: The back of the wall (seen from churchyard side) is coming apart – the brick and the mortar is protruding or falling out in loose blocks. This is the conservation priority for the moment. There are many creeping plants around the walls, which you may want to retain from an aesthetic point of view(?) There were clearly some mortar issues on the walls, and some of the stone is suffering from being pointed with what looks like Portland cement Ideally this should be replaced with lime mortar, which is sacrificial – it breathes rather than the stone).
