Comments:
Condition amended to Fair after site visit. Inscription still legible and no structural issues. The discolouration could be cleaned but it is important not to overclean stone as this can cause damage to the stone by removing the top layer which means future discolouration happens more quickly as subsequent layers of the stone are softer and more receptive to pollutants. The memorial is sited under trees and next to a busy road so pollutants are hard to avoid. Managing the trees to minimise oevrhang of the memorial could reduce the amount of discolouration. It coudl eb worth reviewing WMT's helpsheet on Cleaning stone with water for guidance on how this could be carefully cleaned
