Comments:
The War Memorials Trust awarded Madley Parochial Church Council a generous grant in early 2020 to cover many of the costs of much needed renovation work highlighted in the report by David Gallichan, Organ Builder of Malvern, Worcestshire. Mr Gallichan inspected the Organ in Madley Parish Church in July 2018. The instrument having been built by organ builder Nicholson's, around the early part of the twentieth century, is a fine example of this renowned organ builder and once completely overhauled will give many years of reliable service. The condition of the organ at present is generally sound with the majority of problems caused by perished leather and the ingress of water damage. The great sound board and tracker action have been overhauled in the recent past and these do not need to be renovated at this time. The swell sound board does not show any signs of runnings or tight slides and this could be restored or left in situ on further inspection. The leather on the bellows have split but have been releathered along with repairs to the pneumatic action to the pedal couplers. There are also signs of water damage to the main building frame structure and pedal chests. These have since been repaired and made structurally sound. The chests were overhauled when the addition of a note switching system was installed and these should be sound, however with the ingress of water some of these could be compromised. The church's chancel roof is presently (2019/2020) being retiled and the organ is in protective sheeting.
