Comments:
St Luke's was reordered in the 1980's, with the nave and north-western portion of the church converted to secular community space, and a new hall constructed on a mezzanine in the upper part of the nave. The chancel became a new, smaller worship area divided from the nave by a movable partition. For larger services, the partition can be removed and the church resumes its former size. Remarkably, the screen survived the reordering. One side of it is more ornate - this originally faced the congregation in the nave, with the plainer side facing the altar. As part of the reordering, the screen was turned around. The ornate side now faces the altar and smaller worship space, with the plainer side against the movable partition and facing the nave beyond. The hanging cross can no longer be seen from the nave because of the mezzanine floor. It can still be seen from the altar, and presumably has also been rotated. Screen, cross and plaque are all in Good Condition.
