Comments:
There is a need for maintenance and repairs works to be undertaken to the hard landscape surrounding the War memorial. The memorial has suffered from poor environmental conditions with high levels of carbon in the air. The stonework is stained and requires careful conservation cleaning. The bas relief carving of the British Lion is fragile and marred by erosion. Of greatest concern is the condition of the bronze state (Peace) at the top of the memorial which requires expert attention to the discoloration of the figure and globe, cleaning,. re-patination and application of protective wax. a number of the memorial plaques are discoloured and marred by algae growth. The stonework requires cleaning and local re-pointing works to open joints.
