A conservationist's report will be submitted to WMT directly. The cross of the Memorial has a major structural problem that needs to be addressed. The base of the cross has lost its mortar joint, the surrounding stone has been pinched and spalled and in one section cut away and pieced in. This segment of piecing has failed and been removed. The cross is misaligned several millimetres at the back, significantly this misalignment suggests that internal dowels have now reduced structural integrity. It is also reasonable to assume that wind buffering has caused movement in the cross.
