In 2013, the Eccleshall Historical Society (EHS) researched the names of the 45 men and one woman from WW1 who appeared on the memorial. The names of 17 'men of Eccleshall' were discovered, who appeared on CWGC website but did not appear on the memorial, or any other in a 10 mile radius. Thanks to the generosity of the Parish Council (custodians), County Council, British Legion, Community Groups, individuals, and relatives of the fallen, the money was raised to update the memorial. In May 2018, the memorial was cleaned, and the plinth re-pointed. The 17 names were added. The work was carried out by Bentons, who built the memorial in 1921. They recommended that the cross not be cleaned, as this may do more harm than good. On Sunday 24th June 2018, the memorial was rededicated. A Special Service of Remembrance was held. Wreaths were laid by the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire and 5 relatives of the fallen. The Church Service was led by the Bishop of Stafford, which followed as far as possible the same format as the original Service in 1921. The memorial is in as good a condition as can be expected, given its age and sandstone construction
